Our first honor was having been born in Cartagena.
¡Tecnológica de Bolívar University is proud to be from Cartagena!
It has also been the number one choice for private higher education in the city for years.
It has already been 33 years since our birth on that 5th of August 1970; we are now entering the new millennium fully prepared to establish our 33 year-long trajectory of experience in developing undergraduate, diploma, graduate and Master’s degree courses.

We have spent these first three decades strengthening our relationships with various domestic and overseas universities by means of a sophisticated Virtual Higher Education System following a tendency of unstoppable growth.
Thanks to the futuristic vision of the University’s management, it is now evident that there is a huge contrast between our genesis as a small institute located in a rented site and today’s modern campuses, one in the traditional Manga neighborhood and the other one in Ternera, both of which currently count on a modern infrastructure endowed with our own Internet node linked by means of optical fiber, fully equipped workshops, and libraries ready to serve all of our students.
Our history has been nurtured by our capacity of thinking at a big scale as well as our steadfast determination to offer solid human, scientific and technological training based upon moral, intellectual and ethical principles. We already have several generations of graduates who are committed to the regional and national development and fully trained to perform successfully, even in the overseas job market.
Our history also includes great difficulties which we have overcome; such hardship has made us stronger and has given us the knowledge thatwe can contribute to the building of a better country. That is the reason why we must keep moving forward, relentlessly, always getting better and strengthening our academic community with experience, ideals, accomplishments and expectations for our youth.
The following are the most important facts recorded during these first 33 years of our trajectory:
MISSION: WE ARE a training and research institute with an entrepreneurial calling, in which the academic-student community, professors, businesspeople and society at large, can find the appropriate setting to share a critical, flexible and global educational project through which they learn how to Know, Do, Live and Be, within high academic standards with a sense of social responsibility that leads up to the betterment oflife quality on behalf of our city and the Caribbean.
VISION: WE VIEW OURSELVES in 2006, institutionally acknowledged as a University with a high capacity of academic and social credibility closely associated with all entrepreneurial fields and with the strategic development of the city.
WE VIEW OURSELVES as a leading institution with a global entrepreneurial vocation.
WE VIEW OURSELVES as key-role players in the social transformation of our context.
WE VIEW OURSELVES consolidating a professor nucleus with high academic reviews that can build up research networks in high-priority and relevant subject-matters towards entrepreneurial and social development.
WE VIEW OURSELVES enlarging our coverage, attracting and facilitating our access to the biggest talents, forming a new leading social class generating new work opportunities, according to our entrepreneurial orientation.
WE VIEW OURSELVES integrating parents and alumni into our institutional dynamics.
WE VIEW OURSELVES consolidating Alliances with the productive sector in a mutual learning relationship thus contributing to the strengthening of competitive vantages on behalf of local companies.
WE VIEW OURSELVES linked to the international community by developing agreements and associations that ensure our inclusion into the Global Village.
WE VIEW OURSELVES reinforcing and diversifying our source of income as a condition towards institutional sustenance and as a means towards the achievement of academic development, availability of academic tools for learning, technological growth, risk prevention and towards the compliance of the social duties that fall upon us as corporate citizens.

Our current symbol, in spite of being all-out new, keeps the same merge of focus and color that the former one had. As a whole, the elements that comprise the symbol exude a modern image, corporate education and growth within theCaribbean and international setting. Its perspective and bi-dimensional shape convey a concrete direction, steadiness, development and improvement. The transparencies convey union, commitment and participation. The following are the constituting elements: A Palm Tree: the University; The Ring: the sun, the world and rotation; the color: green is our corporate color, which besides serving as a linkage image element with the previous symbol, conveys freshness, renewal, Caribbean identity and co-habitation with the environment. |

The “U” represents the university lifestyle: our academic purpose, our professors and research, social projection, essence, critical, flexible and our globaleducational project. The “U” is the linking element with our partner institutions. It also comes to be the containing element, where everything flows. Its perspective and angular shape conveys a particular direction. Its core is full of color, solidity and graphic strength. |

The Royal Palm Tree is the axis of the Republican Coat of Arms of Cartagena, proud of its past tradition and haughtily confident in its future projection. In addition to being a typical element of the Caribbean region, it represents growth, steadiness, adaptation to winds of change; its roots are firm, conveying stability and stamina. The transparency or contrast conveys clarity, sincerity, a new dawning. Its position within the symbol represents a horizon: the Caribbean as a cornerstone of our projection to the world. |

The Ring –a circle that represents a world in interaction, globalization and internationalization. It is intertwined with the both the Palm Tree and the edge side of the symbol. It is the basic linking element. The Palm Tree is open in its core, which symbolizes our Caribbean projection from Cartagena de Indias towards the whole globe. The circle also depicts a concept of community, environmental responsibility and service dynamics. |
